Looking at the teaser trailer again, I compare the visuals from the sequel to the first film. Here you can clearly see just how far the technology has come.
Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water follows the journey of Jake Sully and Neytiri's newfound family. Despite their best efforts to keep their family together, a familiar threat resurfaces and forces Jake, Neytiri, and their four children to flee to the land of the Metkayina clan.
Avatar: The Way of Water's plot will be a fully-encapsulated, standalone narrative, as will the other sequels, but will also be part of a meta-narrative that extends across Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar 3, 4 and 5.
