This old console turned 25 years old just a few days ago (I'M SO OOOOLD), so I thought it would be good to make a short video showing a superior way to play some of its games today, and that way is through an emulator called Mupen64Plus-Next (found in the front-end app RetroArch). Not only can it render the game visuals accurately (with the ParaLLEl video plugin), but it can also make the games perform quite a bit better than on original hardware, which is great for immersion and preservation.

The option that increases performance isn't perfect as it doesn't fix every game and can even break some games (such as Conker's Bad Fur Day), but for the games I showed here, it works really well. Please note that there is an even better way to play GoldenEye and Perfect Dark outside of RetroArch. See the description of my GoldenEye video for details:    • The best way to play GoldenEye 007 (N64 on...

I hope this video helps to inspire some og-hardware-only retro gamers to try out emulation. Yes, there's kind of a learning curve, but it's worth it imo.

In case anyone's wondering, the CRT tv simulated look is the HSM Mega Bezel Reflection Shader. It's awesome for making any flatscreen look nostalgic. It's still in a beta state.

I apologize to my metalhead audience who are probably tired of me posting nerdy shit. Music stuff is on the way! I praaahmis!
