Have you ever wanted to recreate an old portrait? How do you become a meme? Can one meme themselves? Today, I explore the deep dark caverns of my brain and the internet in pursuit of recreating the Archaic Rap meme.
**Portraits that I used:

Self-Portrait with a Harp, 1790s, Rose-Adelaide Ducreux, The Met: https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collect...
Being the history nerd that I am, in addition to being a "real" (whatever that means) art historian and dress historian, I have always had a deep love and appreciation for the Joseph Ducreux "Archaic Rap Meme". And so, during this quarantine, I got the (probably dumb - lol) idea to reproduce the Joseph Ducreux portraits, but as a woman.
As a historical costumer, I was looking to learn how my body looked in those positions - how does an 18th-century male appearance translate to 1700s female dress? Do I look the same as they did in the 1700s? How hard is it to reproduce classical painted portraiture using my camera?
I also totally went down a rabbit hole, learning about the raging dumpster fire that is physiognomy. Fun in theory - horrific in practice.
Anyways, I had a lot of fun editing this video and putting the memes together (Special thanks to @bernadettebanner for her assistance in Old English Grammar ❤😂).
I also want to thank @rachelmaksy for the inspiration to do this video, because she is a comedy queen. ❤
🎉🎉 I've also uploaded the photos and memes to Pinterest: https://pin.it/75Ntibo
