The aircraft was shot down on September 9, 1942, during the Sinyavino Offensive Operation, when troops from the Volkhov and Leningrad Fronts attempted to break the siege of Leningrad.
The wreckage of a single-seat Soviet LaGG-3 fighter was found in the forests of the Leningrad Region. It served during the Great Patriotic War. Fragments of the fuselage and a tablet containing the pilot's flight log were recovered. The engine was also preserved. The aircraft had lain two meters deep in a swamp all this time. The viscous clay of the Sinyavino Heights continues to resist, but it can no longer conceal the secret of the Soviet fighter's wreck. Searchers are carefully examining its exposed "heart" at the bottom of a two-meter-deep excavation.
And it remains unclear whether the pilot managed to hit the enemy on his final flight. The cannon was loaded with 20mm rounds. The barrel is bent - the plane fell from a height almost vertically.
