Karen bought a small fire scarred lot of land across from the street from the lake in Veneta, Oregon in 2003. She transformed it into a paradise; a reflection of her own flourishing at this time in her life. She practiced permaculture, and early days agonized over how to deal with the slugs. Her garden bore figs from a fig tree that grew as large as a banyan tree with her love, hazelnuts and miraculous mulberries. She grew vegetables and gooseberries, wild roses and corn flowers, and so much more. She created a pond where, after the hazelnut tree could protect the waters from the lake's fish eating birds, three lovely coy swirled and twirled under the lily pads to the eternal music of water falling.
