Do you already have an emergency radio? We tested 12!
The government recommends having an emergency kit at home, including a radio to stay informed in disaster situations. Many emergency radios are available for purchase online. What can you expect from them, and do you really need an emergency radio?
What stands out in the emergency radio test:
1 - Battery life varies considerably
How long you can listen to the radio on a full battery varies considerably from one emergency radio to another. Some last around 10 hours, while others last more than 200 hours.
2 - Manual charging
How well you charge the battery by turning the handle varies from one emergency radio to another. Moreover, it takes quite a bit of time and effort.
3 - FM or DAB+?
All emergency radios receive FM radio, but some also receive DAB+. This is useful in emergencies. You receive more stations and the sound quality is better.
We bought 12 readily available emergency radios online, ranging from €20 to €230. We test them on the following points: battery life, reception and sound quality, ease of use, reliability, and additional features.
