What you should know before your first chemotherapy: Your concerns about long-term complications such as CIPN (chemotherapy-induced polyneuropathy) are justified.

But there are ways to avoid some of them. Hilotherapy®, for example, is a controlled thermotherapy (cooling) procedure to prevent chemotherapy-related hair loss and nerve damage in the hands and feet.

It is important that it is started early (before the start of chemotherapy).

Dr. Schaper is a former principal investigator at Luisenkrankenhaus Düsseldorf and presents updated data from studies on CIPN and alopecia prophylaxis at various workshops and conferences. In conversation with Bärbel Schäfer, she discusses the importance of informing patients and those not yet affected about CIPN and the available treatments.

This video is part of the awareness campaign "I'M IN! Understanding Breast Cancer," which has featured over 150 interviews with doctors, women affected by breast cancer, and breast cancer specialists since 2020. Discussions moderated by Bärbel Schäfer are regularly uploaded to this channel. Subscribe to our channel and don't miss any of the upcoming posts.
