In any programming language if you want to raise or manage any expected or unexpected error during execution, you will need a robust exception handling framework.
Although we were doing same using JavaScript or other way in Snowflake, but there were no support to do that within SQL scripting. With the extension of SQL in terms of SQL Scripting feature in Snowflake, it opened lots of flexibility in terms of migrating from on-premise database giant like Oracle.
Inspire of this in very early stage and not all feature is released at the moment, I believe still Snowflake Scripting has made life easier for people who are coming from pure PLSQL background and worked extensively on PLSQL.
This was one of the thing which I was missing in Snowflake and was eagerly waiting for release of same. Good part is that Snowflake had tried to reuse most of ANSI standard syntax and that make lot of code migration smoothly without worrying about what will be the conversion syntax for this in Snowflake while moving from On-premises database.
Prior to this feature we were able to achieve this in JavaScript, but it was a lot more code in comparison to SQL Scripting. Also, conversion was a major concern from PLSQL to JavaScript.
