There's probably a fear, a stereotype, that using EPS insulation over aerated concrete walls is unacceptable because the walls underneath will get damp, mold will grow, etc.
There are ways to install this type of thermal insulation with errors. Errors primarily arise when the final structure fails to meet the requirement for protection against excessive moisture in the enclosing structures, as set out in Section 12 of SP 50.13330.2012 "Thermal Protection of Buildings." For aerated concrete walls, this requirement must also be supplemented by consideration of the initial moisture content.
Basic rules for using EPS insulation on aerated concrete walls:
1. Allow a break between the end of masonry work and the start of insulation.
2. Installation with adhesive and mechanical fasteners.
3. The thickness of the insulation layer should provide half, or at least 1/3, of the total thermal resistance.
The thickness of the EPS on the walls must be at least 55 mm.
