February 2, 2020 CLEAN AND LUBRICATE YOUR SEWING MACHINE YOURSELF, easily, without the help of a professional!!! Is your machine making noise and clunking while sewing? It's time to clean and lubricate your "workhorse." Grab a clean rag, a paintbrush, and household oil for parts and mechanisms, and let's get started. Turn the machine on its side, remove the bottom cover, clean all parts, and lubricate all moving parts and mechanisms with oil. Don't be afraid to unscrew anything yourself; just clean and lubricate. Let the machine rest on its side for a couple more minutes, lay a rag on the table, and turn the machine upright (as you normally would when sewing). Leave the bottom cover open and allow the excess oil to drain. Now we'll work on the upper parts of the machine, cleaning and lubricating all openings and mechanisms. You can engage the freewheel and move the mechanisms around for better lubrication. After lubricating, let the machine sit for 5-6 hours, preferably a day. Then, wipe the machine frame and presser foot with a clean, dry cloth to remove excess oil. You can begin sewing, but if you're sewing something simple, like potholders or an apron, hemming jeans, etc., droplets of oil may ooze out and remain on the fabric for a while, so we'll focus on coarse fabrics for now.
