From the biggest and boldest beasts… to the legendary Wolverine and Honey Badger … Here are 15 of the world’s most fearless animals
#15 American Minks
Native to North America, these animals are likely best known for their fur, which has been highly valued (and quite expensive) for ages. A lesser known fact about minks is that they are bold and fearless creatures. They only measure around 18 inches (45 cm) long and weigh about 3 pounds (1,580 grams). But they have no hesitation about defending themselves against larger predators. As members of the weasel family they can be very aggressive, and are known to emit some piercing shrieks when threatened.
#14 Wild Boar
Human intervention has expanded the animal’s range to such a degree that the species has become one of the most widespread mammals in the world. It’s native to much of North Africa and Eurasia. The creatures are known for having a bad disposition. Not the best complement to their immense size. Certain male specimens have been documented to weigh more than 660 pounds (300 kg). Combine that with razor sharp tusks and a keen intelligence, and you have a beast that has little to fear from predators. Experienced hunters claim that these beasts can present a greater danger than bears.
#13 Asian Black Bear
These are medium sized ursids that can weigh upwards of 440 pounds (200 kg) and inhabit the Himalayas and other parts of Asia. They’re actually noted for having a cautious and shy nature. But that doesn’t mean they’re timid, especially where humans are concerned. In fact, they’ve displayed a marked fearlessness of us. They’ve been known to attack without being provoked, and inflict significant damage. There are even accounts where groups of Asian Black Bears have entered villages and killed several inhabitants. What makes them so bold? Some experts say it might be due to the bears having to share territory with tigers. The big cats are known to take them as prey.
#12 Hippos
These beasts can easily weigh more than 3,300 pounds (1,500 kg) and are famous (or infamous) for their aggression. Thanks in part to that bad temperament and their massive size, they rarely serve as prey for other animals. So they essentially have little, if anything, to fear from anything.. And that could help to explain the havoc they can unleash should they become irritated or threatened. When they reach that state, the animals are known to charge and attack boat. And they’re powerful enough to capsize smaller vessels.
#11 Indian Rhinoceros
Found in Northern India and southern Nepal, these animals look like they have armor plating on their massive bodies. Weighing on average some 5,000 pounds (2,268 kg), they rank only behind the Asian elephant as the largest terrestrial land mammals native to Asia. And although it’s not apparent from their bulk, they can run up to 35 mph (56 kph), and display some impressive agility. These animals have a reputation for being bad tempered ... making them far more likely to attack first and ask questions later. The one-horned rhinos are known to have little fear of threats, no matter how large. The rhinos will take on elephants, tigers, and even trucks!
