UPDATE FOR 3.2:
something I didn't realize since 3.0 until recently, you can buy lab rushes for cruel lab at lvl 40+ and merciless lvl 50+. Which means that before you fight kitava at ~lvl 45 you can already have over 2k ES
not much has changed, just abyss are rarer but can still be bought for cheap

Abyss Jewels are good for leveling: flat ES, %regen while moving, resis.

you need more cold resis without the gull, so try to get more jewels with more resis and es (i went with cheap 2 stat jewels)
pick soul of abberath and soul of arakaali
use https://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Mar... at level 52
you can still use a rare shield with leo mod around lvl 50, but you might degen a bit until you get cruel lab points
