(Sacramento) -- Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont), other legislators and leaders from several environmental organizations recently joined together at a press conference at the state Capitol in support of his landmark legislation to require disclosure of the various chemicals used by oil and gas producers who engage in hydraulic fracturing. Hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is the process of injecting a highly-pressurized mix of water, sand and toxic chemicals underground to crack rock formations and tap into petroleum deposits. Its use has become controversial because of the possibility of contamination to water supplies. "Roughly 50,000 Californians have signed on-line petitions expressing their support for passing Assembly Bill 591 and protecting our state's environment," Wieckowski said. "They all agree with us that it is time to pull back the curtain and shed more light on fracking." Here's more in this Assembly Access video. www.asmdc.org/wieckowski
