In this video, I will show you how to add a background blur in Figma in 2026. Beginners often confuse "Layer Blur" with "Background Blur," but they do completely different things. If you want to create a frosted glass effect or make text readable on top of a busy image, the Background Blur effect is the specific tool you need to use.

I will guide you through the "Effects" panel settings and the crucial step that most people miss: lowering the "Fill Opacity" of your top layer. Unless your layer is partially transparent, the blur effect won't be visible. I will demonstrate how to balance the blur value and opacity to achieve that premium, modern iOS-style aesthetic.

Make sure you are applying the effect to the overlay shape, not the image behind it, for the effect to work properly. If this video helps you master Figma's effect panel, please hit the like button and subscribe for more short tutorials!
