Edit Mode - Global and Local Origin
When using the Move and Rotate tools, by default the tools will always work along the axis of the model space. By enabling Local Origin, the axis get aligned with the object, allowing it to be modified on the X, Y, and Z axis relative to the object, not the entire model space. Scale always uses the Local Origin.
