The process of adding surface textures involves setting up materials and using a material site improvement manager. Initially, a new material is created if none exist, with options to define different material types such as earthen or fill materials. A new material category, like BMP materials, can be created for specific projects, such as a pond. Textures are used for takeoff, shading, and rendering. To add a texture, a swatch image is selected, and its scale can be adjusted. Textures like water and grass are assigned to layers, and the surface texture is applied within defined boundaries. The boundary is converted from a CAD polyline to a linestring to ensure sharpness and texture containment. Surface properties automatically switch to material mode, displaying the texture pattern. Adjustments can be made to the pattern size through the material site improvement manager. To apply a texture to another area, the boundary must be closed, and the texture is selected within that boundary. Only one texture can be applied per area, and contours can be turned off to view the texture. This method effectively adds surface textures to a project.
