Good day, friends!
In this video I realized my old idea, namely I modernized the standard Dendy joystick by introducing a couple of new toggle buttons😁 into its design.
The main toggle switch turns on the extra turbo speed for both A and B buttons, which can be set in advance using the variable resistor knob, located next to the LED. The LED, by the way, indicates with a blinking frequency, we can say in an analog way, the selected speed. Accordingly, the more often the LED blinks, the higher the speed.
An additional toggle switch located on the back side of the joystick activates Turbo Pause or Slow-Mo mode, like slowing down time in 8 bit games 😁.
I must say that as a rule all arcade joysticks are equipped with such features, a good example Capcom Power Stick Fighter or joystick by HORI HJ-10.
A distinctive feature of my prototype is the ability to fine-tune the additional turbo speed.
It's worth noting that the possible tangible speed limit of the turbo buttons is not much higher than the capabilities of standard turbo buttons that any 8 bit joystick equipped with turbo buttons has. I have tried to show the difference between the possible limit and the standard turbo buttons, watch carefully as I toggle the red lever as I play.
Of course, I will definitely do a more detailed review in which I show how my super turbo joystick is set up.
I think this homemade device can be repeated by anyone.
You just need to determine where to place the most common pulse generator built on a classic NE555 timer chip in the body of the joystick.
Of course, this circuit will work if you have a normal joystick without turbo buttons, but in your case it will just be one speed less, you just finally get the turbo buttons 😁 the speed of which you can adjust at will.
