Leaf of Life, also known as Kalanchoe pinnata, is one of the most powerful healing plants you can grow in a Florida backyard. In this video I show you how to grow it in Zone 10a, how to keep it from spreading, and how to use it for natural remedies like kidney support, respiratory relief, and wound care. This is part of my backyard medicine cabinet series where I teach you how to grow real functional healing plants at home.
This plant is famous for its ability to dissolve kidney stones, support healthy blood sugar, soothe coughs and bronchial issues, reduce inflammation, and speed up wound healing. Traditional medicine has used it for centuries and modern research is now catching up. It is tough, drought tolerant, clones itself from a single leaf, and grows almost anywhere. It is also invasive in some parts of Florida which is why I show you the safest way to grow it in a container.
In this video I break down how to grow it, how to harvest it, and how to make a simple Leaf of Life tea using fresh leaves. I also give important safety notes about pets since this plant can be toxic to cats, dogs, and livestock if they eat the leaves. For humans it is used moderately, only a few times per week as needed, and can be taken as a tea, chewed fresh, or added to smoothies.
