This how I designed a Grid AI Prototype Auto-Miner that can go *underground*. This mining drone tutorial includes my fails and wins, troubleshooting and solutions. There is a lot of detail about Space Engineers Automatons Grid AI so it is split into two parts.
This video deals with:
Form factor - How do I build a mining drone that fits down a hole and can get back out?
Cargo - How much cargo does a mining drone need to be useful?
Thrust - Do I use atmospheric thrust or hydrogen? How many thrusters and where?
Power - How many batteries do I need and how do I auto-recharge when needed?
AI - How to use the event controller with the ai move and ai recorder to create complex rules.
Drills - How do I stop my mining drone filling up on stone and ice?
I don't recommend following along with me as most of the time I'm trialing ideas and seeing what works, but by the end of this I hope we can all learn how to solve problems with difficult ship designs.
This session uses vanilla Space Engineers Automatons, with the Grid AI system - using the AI Move, AI Recorder (Task) and Event Controller blocks.
I am using AQD vanilla ore distribution mod to have deeper than normal ores to make sure this works for all situations, and Ore Detectors + to see where the ores are.
