1. Basic Setup: Pre-composing is Key
• Workflow: Convert your text layer into a pre-composition.
o Why: This enables "one-click replacement." No matter what text or logo you want to change later, simply double-click into this pre-comp to modify it, and the effects in the main composition will update automatically.
2. Luma Matte: Borrowing the Texture's Silhouette
• Workflow: Duplicate the texture layer, place it directly above the text layer, and set the text layer's track matte to Luma Matte.
o Why: A Luma Matte restricts the text so it only appears within the "bright areas" of the texture. Pairing this with a Curves effect to boost the highlights makes the text look as if it is "growing" out from the peeling cracks, rather than being awkwardly pasted onto the surface.
3. CC Glass & Displacement Map: Giving 3D Depth
• Workflow: Apply both CC Glass and Displacement Map effects to the text layer, setting the displacement and surface map source to the texture image layer.
o Why:
CC Glass simulates the shading of surface undulations, creating organic highlights and shadows across the text.
Displacement Map warps the edges of the text based on the luminance pixels of the texture. This forces the text strokes to bend and distort along the peeling ridges of the texture, achieving a true "embedded" look.
4. Wiggle Expression: Adding a Natural Breathing Feel
• Workflow: Apply the code wiggle(1, 20) to the center property of a Motion Tile effect.
o Why: This gritty, industrial style loses its gritty edge if it is completely static. Adding a subtle camera shake combined with mirrored edges simulates the documentary feel of a handheld camera, drastically increasing visual impact.
5. Liquify & Keyframing: Giving the Text Life
• Workflow: Open the text pre-composition, apply the Liquify effect to warp the letters, and keyframe the "Distortion Percentage."
o Why: Liquify simulates a melting or organic growing motion. Fine-tuning these keyframes with Easy Ease (F9) and speed curves gives the dripping and appearing animation a rhythmic, aesthetic beauty.
6. Hard Light Blending: Lighting & Shading
• Workflow: Overlay an external light and shadow asset footage onto the scene, and change its blending mode to Hard Light.
o Why: The Hard Light blending mode filters out the neutral grays of the asset while preserving aggressive highlight and shadow variations. This instantly punches up the color saturation and contrast of the overall frame.
