This segment of Tat-Stories is part of our Blue Coller Ink education series. In this installment we provide a fresh take on students getting ink that includes the youthful experience of our host Katie Kaz and an interesting perspective from a parent confronted with teenage ink as well as words of wisdom snd insight from a couple of our interviews.

We know, Spring Break is right around the corner, and we know the fresh ink will be flowing in resort towns across the US. If you're a student thinking about getting a tattoo, take a listen to Katie and her tips. She speaks from experience as a teenage collector of ink. Her tips might give you some ideas on how to approach your parents about your newly acquired body art and what that communication should look like. In addition we even talked to Donna - a mother that was shocked by her son's first ink. Parents - WATCH AND LISTEN TO DONNA - she has some great insight on how to cope and come to grips with the fact that your baby has a tattoo. She turned it into a way to enhance communication with, and connection to, her son. Finally, we pulled comments from a couple of our interviews that got ink at an early age. One was incredibly adept at hiding it while the other started small but still sees his tattoo as a personal journey that his parents ultimately learned to respect.

Bottom line - if you're getting ink - understand why, and if you're the parent of a recently tattooed young person - get curious on why your baby connected with that piece of art and what it means to them from a self-expression perspective. The ABCs tied to see or get a tattoo - always be communicating.
