Today, I support and observe #BlackOutTuesday by releasing black art that reflects these troubled times with a visual tribute to one of our greatest black leaders “Malcom X.” https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/bla...
I am an advocate of peaceful protests. Yet, those in power can only abuse their authority for so long. All I ask for is justice, accountability, and equality. Institutionalized and systematic oppression were written into law and some examples of this are; Jim Crow Laws, Three-Fifths Compromise, Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. It didn't always take legislation because in many ways it's implied throughout the structure and organization of our country.
As a ‘black man,’ which is a subordinate group in America, a country who’s foundation was predicted on unalienable rights and freedom, we must stand up against the system that was designed to work against us. Every successful black man has to overcome the seemingly insurmountable. Many came before us to create new economic and political opportunities. I stand next to my brothers and sisters to face this inequality head on in solidarity.
I was lucky enough to have a black father who had to join the military to change the trajectory of our bloodline and now I must carry the baton further for my children.
Everyone faces hardship, yes. But the numbers against my people in the African-American community are staggering. The disadvantages of this system must be noted, brought to light, and changed.
We will not be denied equality any longer.
