Step-by-Step Renewal Process
🔄 If Your DSC is Still Valid (Renew Before Expiry)
Check Expiry Date: Find your DSC’s expiration date (usually on the token software or certificate details). Start the renewal a few weeks before this date to stay safe.
Visit eMudhra Portal: Go to the eMudhra DSC Renewal portal and click on “Renew Certificate”. Select your user type (Individual/Organization), certificate type (Signature or Both), and desired validity (1, 2, or 3 years).
Fill Details & Payment: Enter required details (name, organization, etc.) and opt out of buying a new USB token if you already have one. Proceed to payment and complete the payment process (DSC renewal fee).
Complete Aadhaar eKYC: Choose Aadhaar OTP as your KYC method. Enter your Aadhaar number, submit the OTP sent to your registered mobile, and e-sign the application (consent to use your Aadhaar details).
Video Verification: Record a short video (as prompted) showing your face and ID for verification (this is mandated by CCA for paperless DSC issuance). Submit the video for verification.
Download New DSC: Once your renewal application is approved (usually within minutes), download your new digital signature certificate. Use the password you set during application to securely download/install it to your existing USB token. Your new DSC will be valid immediately and can overlap with your old one, so you experience no interruption in service. ✅
⏰ If Your DSC Has Expired (Renew After Expiry)
Don’t Panic – Process is Similar: If your DSC already expired, you will essentially be applying for a renewal as if it’s a new DSC. The steps are largely the same as above, so you won’t miss out on anything.
Initiate Renewal on eMudhra: Visit the eMudhra portal and start a “Renew Certificate” request (even for expired DSC, you use the renewal/new application process). Provide your details and choose the certificate type and validity as needed.
Provide Verification Details: Complete the identity verification through Aadhaar-based eKYC (or alternate KYC like PAN + video, if applicable). Since your old certificate isn’t valid anymore, you must go through full verification. The Aadhaar OTP + video KYC will quickly confirm your identity online.
Payment & Approval: Pay the renewal fee to finalize your application. After payment, perform the video verification step. Once the eMudhra team approves the request, you can download the new DSC to your USB token. (If your old token is an older model not supported by new certificates, you might need to get a new token – see below.)
Resume Using DSC: Install the new certificate on your USB token. Now you’re ready to use your renewed digital signature for all your transactions again. Keep the new expiration date in mind and set reminders to renew in time to avoid future gaps.
