This is a quick tutorial on grabbing stock part CAD models, like fasteners, from the website McMaster.com. We use this all the time in RoboJackets since it's kind of a waste of time to model these common parts ourselves. The process is this:
Head to McMaster.com
Refine your searches to find the exact part you want
Once you find a suitable match, click on the product number, then "Product Details"
Scroll down until you see the save button next to the part drawing
Select "3-D STEP" and then click save
Move the file into your GrabCAD folder if you have one
In your assembly in Inventor, use "Place Imported CAD Files" to find the Step file and select it
Click "Okay" on the default importing settings
Place your part then constrain, and you're done!
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your subteam lead or your mechanical trainers, we'll be happy to help!
