Nissan Maxima 3.5 Engine Rattle Noise - from Intake Manifold

At certain engine speeds or loads, you may notice a rattle coming from under your hood. If you can narrow it down to the intake manifold, you may have a Power Valve Actuator, or just power valve, that is worn out or coming apart. Try using a stethoscope like this http://amzn.to/2mbIuIO to help pinpoint the noise.
It is common on Nissans with power valves for the screws to become loose, or fall out altogether. Also, the shaft that the butterfly sits on may wear out, and have excessive play.
Try manually opening and closing the power valve to see if the noise comes and goes. If so then you will need to remove the valve and see what's going on.
