It's often useful to make a Power BI dashboard page that analyses various dimensions (e.g. gender, age, country, product, date) but where the user can pick which measure they want broken down by all of those, eg I want to switch between sales broken down by all those, into #customers for all of those into last months sales growth etc.
Or the other way around, various charts have multiple fixed measures and the user can select from a slicer the dimension. Field parameters can do both of these things, and here I explain them with some gotchas worth knowing.
