With Syncthing, you can easily synchronize files between different devices – without the need for a central server. Whether you use Linux, Android, Windows, or macOS, simply install Syncthing on every device you want to synchronize. Setup is really easy: After installation, launch the application, open the web interface, and you're ready to go. By default, a “Sync” folder is created in your home directory, which you can use immediately.

Each device is assigned a unique ID, which you enter on the other devices – either by copying and pasting or conveniently via QR code, for example, if you want to connect your smartphone. Once the devices are connected, you can share any folders and decide who you want to share them with – for example, your family or individual friends. New or changed files are automatically synchronized between the devices in real time.

The web interface only runs locally on your computer, so no one else can access it. If you want, you can also protect it with a username and password. To ensure that Syncthing runs automatically in the background when you start your computer, simply copy the corresponding desktop file to your startup folder or enter the startup command in the startup file of your desktop environment. In the video, I explain exactly how to do this.

If you also want to synchronize your devices via the Internet, you should use a VPN solution such as OpenVPN or Wireguard for security reasons. This will keep your data protected even when you access it on the go. Syncthing offers you a flexible, fast, and secure way to keep your files up to date – whether you work alone or share data with others. Have fun trying it out and synchronizing!
