Victoria 3 is the long-awaited third installment in the historical strategy game series from Paradox Interactive. The game takes players back to the colonial era, spanning the years 1836-1936. In the game, players take control of one of many countries, leading it to greatness. The gameplay follows a pattern often seen in other games from this company. Players assume the role of the leader of one of dozens of available countries, and their main task is to develop and expand their chosen nation. Players must balance their income and expenses and maintain diplomatic relations with other countries to gain allies. The game is played in real time, but players can pause the game at any time to more precisely manage their country. Victoria 3 features an advanced economic system that allows for detailed financial management of the country. Access to rare goods or monopolization can bring the player enormous influence. For the economy to function properly, it is necessary to ensure that the workforce is qualified to produce goods. A vast array of research trees, diverse political options, and social groups allow players to customize their country and steer it in the desired direction. During the game, players must also maintain their position on the international stage. Our nation's development often comes at the expense of another, so we must guard against the machinations of other nations on the world map. We can deter our rivals with a powerful army, defeat them diplomatically through alliances, or hatch intrigues. Victoria 3 offers both single-player and multiplayer modes, in which each player takes control of a different nation. Similar to other Paradox strategy games, audiovisuals take a back seat. The title features a very complex interface with a variety of overlays and map display options, prioritizing detail over clarity.
