I'm a few tangents deep into writing a solver for the poisson equation, but this is all part of learning differential geometry a little better ahead of implementing a soft selection feature for my 3D modeling tool half-edge!
The basic idea is that soft-selection will be using geodesic distance, so I'll need a way to compute this for all vertices in the mesh! A lot of this will be based on the work of @keenancrane! His lectures are great and very pretty!
This is the paper I'll be studying:
The Heat Method for Distance Computation (2017) by Crane et al https://www.cs.cmu.edu/~kmcrane/Proje...
idk if I'll get very far, differential geometry is pretty dense and I'm pretty new to it but that's okay!!
