A hernia is a bulge or swelling that occurs when an organ or tissue pushes through a weak spot in the abdominal or groin muscles. Hernias can be painful, but many are not serious.

An incisional hernia is a weakness in the abdominal wall that occurs at the site of a previous surgical incision. This can happen when the surgical wound doesn't heal properly.

Open hernia repair is a surgical procedure that involves making an incision in the groin or abdomen to repair a hernia. The surgeon may use local, regional, or general anesthesia.
