Her father, an avid sportsman, named her after the Roman goddess of the hunt, but Diane herself preferred to say she was named after the goddess of the night, and the moon.
According to family legend, an old woman who came to visit Diane as a baby made a prophecy: that her star would one day rise higher than a Queen's.
And that it did.
