Capturing Data from DED (Directed Energy Deposition) 3D Printing
3D printing is often called a digital manufacturing technology for the way that the process is driven by data files; without digital instructions, a 3D printer cannot print. But equally important is understanding the output of the printer; the data generated in each build carries valuable information about the performance of the printer and the quality of the part. Directed energy deposition (DED) machine supplier Formalloy showcased the data from building an aerospace bracket at the 2022 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS). The company’s DEDSmart software allows for the capture, visualization and analysis of this information, offering a means to improve the process, assure consistency and even validate parts.
