In this Abaqus tutorial, we simulate the Brinell hardness testing method (BHN) using finite element analysis (FEA). Brinell testing is one of the most widely used techniques to determine the hardness of materials, especially metals, by analyzing the permanent indentation left by a hard steel or carbide ball under load.

You'll learn how to digitally model and simulate this test in Abaqus, step-by-step—from setting up the indenter and specimen, defining contact and loads, all the way to post-processing and evaluating the indentation.
