English explainatin : 03:11 - 11:55
Electrolytes :-Defination : The substance which in the form of its fused state or in its aqueous solution conduct the electricity is called electrolytes. Ex. Acid like HCl , HNo3 , Base like NaoH , KoH , Salt like Nacl, Kcl etc.
2) They are formed ions in its fused state or in water.
B) Non electrolytes : The substance which in the form of its fused state or in its aqueous solution do not conduct electricity is called non- electrolytes ,
Ex. Alcohols , oil , suger , starch, petrol etc.
2) They do not formed ions in its fused state or in water.
Types of electrolytes :- They are ;mainly divided into two types
a) Strong electrolytes b) Weak electrolytes.
a) Strong electrolytes :- The electrolytes which are highly ionised in solution are known as strong electrolytes .
2) They have high degree of dissociation.
3) The conductivity of the solution is high.
4) Ex. Strong acid ,like Hcl , H2So4, HNo3 etc.
Strong base like NaoH , KoH, etc.
Salt like Nacl, Kcl, Mgcl2 etc.
b) Weak electrolytes :- The electrolytes which are less ionised in solution are known as weak electrolytes.
2) They have less degree of dissociation
3) The conductivity of the solution is low.
4) Ex , Weak acid like CH3COOH , HCOOH
Weak base llike NH4OH etc.
Salt like BaSo4.
Homework :-
Q.1) Define :- Electrolytes, ii) weak electrolytes
Q.2) Distinguish between :- 1) electrolytes and non-electrolytes
ii) strong and weak electrolytes
Q.3) Multiple choice questions:
i)Which of the following is non- electrolytes ,
a) Hcl b) Nacl c)KOH d) suger
ii) Which of the following is strong electrolytes.
a) Acetic acid B) suger c) formic acid d) sodium chloride
iii) Which one of the following is an electrolyte ?
a) petrol b) alcohol c) benzene d) potassium chloride
iv) Which of the following is not strong electrolyte ?
a) KCl b) NaCl c) MgCl2 d) NH4OH
v) KOH and NaOH are strong electrolyte reason is that..........
a) They are completely ionized in aqueous solution.
b) They are weakly ionized in aqueous solution.
c) They are weakly soluble in water
d) None of these.
