This is the first part of a video dedicated to a thorough analysis of cryptoasset taxation in the Russian Federation. Our guest is Kirill Soppa, an expert on taxation in the Russian Federation.

We examined the definitions of cryptocurrency and digital assets from the perspective of key Russian regulators—the Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance, and the Tax Service—as well as their current stance on regulation in this area.

We analyzed changes in taxation over the past five years, including process automation, transaction monitoring, and the tax service's approach to income reconstruction.

Particular attention is paid to frequently cited articles of legislation, such as Article 2 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, Article 100 of the Tax Code, and Article 101 of the Tax Code. Articles 172, 159, and 187 of the Russian Criminal Code, which relate to illegal banking activities, fraud, and P2P transactions, are also briefly covered.

The article also briefly covers the tax regimes and rates applicable to cryptocurrency transactions—personal income tax, simplified tax system, and professional income tax.
