Raspberry Pi Zero W - Wireless - First Look
This is my first look at the brand new Raspberry Pi Zero W - Wireless. It was just released a few days ago. I picked it up at Micro Center. The place was mobbed by nerds looking for the zero. Micro Center had just stocked them a few hours ago.
So, I'll compare the three. I got the very first Zero when it came out also at the same place and just as it was released.
First thing I noticed was that the components got moved around to make space for the wireless. This happened when they first put the camera interface. But more so this time.
I pointed out the wireless antenna. Its that "S" shapped copper etched on the circuit board. Someone had already moved very tiny resistor as seen on raspberry pi' forum.
I read on raspberry pi's website and I also noticed it too that the wifi/bluetooth are the same as rpi3b.
I noticed they added a coil. Not sure what its for but I'm guessing it RF.
This addition of the zero makes it look like they are branching off the zero series. You have the $5 model with the camera port and then you have the $10 model with the wifi/bluetooth. This parallels the way the original pi split off - the rpi a and b, the rpi 2 a and b...
At recording, I was still flashing the micro SD card, so I didn't get to see it boot up. But no visual differences in the raspbian operating system. I would assume this release is for the zero w support.
