Can You Add Paint To Concrete Mix?
Adding acrylic or latex paint to a concrete mix will not only change the color of it, it will also change the physical properties of the concrete. Acrylic concrete fortifier is a common concrete admixture that can be added to a concrete mix to increase the finished strength and increase the resistance to water permeation. Using acrylic (or latex) paints in a concrete mix to change the color is not only fine to do, but also will give similar physical enhancements to the finished concrete just like acrylic admixtures do. This is a great way to make your concrete better and stronger and to introduce color options to otherwise gray concrete.
Adding acrylic or latex paint to your concrete mix is not really something you would want to do if you are working on a larger project such as a sidewalk, patio or swimming pool deck, but it is something you could experiment with when working with concrete to make something more decorative like a garden statue or plaque, planter or candle holder for instance. Integral mixed colors in concrete are very challenging to produce consistent results with so any project requiring multiple batches to be mixed will have problems matching color from one mix to the next. The finished product will show this irregularity in color.
