This is the first excerpt from the lecture "Universal Principles of Design," which I gave at the Volga Media School. Why is knowledge of the Gestalt principles of visual content perception so important for a graphic designer? When creating a design, we use project technologies. Design is a sequence of actions that lead us to a positive result. A positive result is a situation where our design is understandable and evokes positive emotions in the viewer. A professional approach to design is a sequence of analytical and evaluative actions by the designer: interpretation - explanation - forecast. We must learn not only to interpret the design task but also to be able to explain why our design solution is optimal and, based on this, predict how our design will "work." One of the professional tools for evaluating and interpreting design is the Gestalt principle. In this lecture, I discuss two basic principles: balance and form.
