In this video, we work on a 2019 Ford Transit equipped with the 2.0 EcoBlue (YMR6) diesel engine. The vehicle was towed into the workshop because the engine would crank but would not start. The mileage at the time of failure is 231,000 km.

During the initial inspection, the starter turned the engine normally, but the sound immediately suggested a complete loss of compression. After removing the oil filler cap, the most likely cause of the failure became obvious.

The Ford 2.0 EcoBlue uses a timing belt that runs inside the engine oil. This “wet belt” design is one of the best-known weak points of these engines.

Although the timing belt had previously been replaced with genuine parts at approximately 130,000 km, using the correct Ford-approved engine oil, the belt failed after only about 100,000 km, well before the official replacement interval.

The most common failure is belt delamination or stripped teeth, causing incorrect valve timing, loss of compression, and complete engine failure.

In this video, we begin the diagnosis by disassembling the engine, inspecting the timing belt, and assessing the internal damage to determine whether the engine can be repaired.

The video explains the most common wet timing belt failures on the Ford 2.0 EcoBlue engine and shows the complete diagnostic process step by step.
