Black Carp were imported to control snails and parasites carried by snails in U.S. fish farms. Some carp escaped, and now the species is reproducing in the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Jack Killgore, fisheries biologist with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi, discusses the threat Black Carp pose to native freshwater mussels, many of which are already at risk or endangered from a variety of causes.
