How do trust and respect impact feedback?
When trust and respect is low between two people, it can be challenging to communicate feedback effectively. The provider might be nervous about the delivery. The receiver is probably going to get defensive. Feedback remains useful, but far more challenging.
If we can build trust and respect with people, as the rapport increases we start to get some implicit understanding that the goal of feedback is success and growth.
Think about anyone you know that you trust a great deal and have a lot of respect for. If they gave you constructive criticism, you already feel like they're trying to genuinely help you.
