Before using any micrometer we have to check the same using master gauge if the zero setting is Ok or not.If Ok we start taking measurements, otherwise we have to proceed for zero setting of the same as mentioned below:-
Zero Setting:
Clean both anvils with a clean cloth to ensure both anvils are free of contamination. Rotate the spindle by the pressure ratchet until both anvils are both touching or making contact with the micrometer standard for micrometers larger than 0 to 25 mm range. Ensure that the zero on the thimble is in alignment with the base line on the sleeve.
1. Adjustment of deviation less than 0.01 mm: Use the wrench supplied to rotate the sleeve until the zero on the thimble aligns with the base line on the sleeve.
2. Adjustment if deviation in excess of 0.01 mm: Use the supplied wrench to loosen the pressure ratchet. Lightly tap the end of the pressure ratchet to loosen the thimble from the spindle taper. Rotate the thimble until the zero is in alignment with the sleeve base line. Carefully tighten the pressure ratchet ensuring that the zero position is correct.
