THIS VIDEO: Composition means how you construct a photograph - how you arrange the elements within the frame in order to draw the viewers eye and attention to that you want to show them. Our eyes are scanning constantly to recognise patterns, shapes and lines. In essence it is the ability to recognise that there are ways of arranging of the elements within the frame that enhance one’s ability to communicate with the viewer. There is no such thing as a correct composition, or a set of rules that need to be followed. It is more about building a toolbox of ideas that one can draw on within any given situation. So, in order to talk about photographic composition one needs to discover why some images work or spark a viewer’s attention.
