The Daisy Ready Ryder is well over 80 years old and originated from a man called Clarence Hamilton who was an inventor and watch repairer.
Clarence owneed the Plymouth Air Rifle Company which was close top his watch repair shop in Michigan.
Clarence also invented the veinless windmill and was on the board of directors of the Plymouth Iron Windmill Company.
Unfortunately the windmill company was suffering financial issues due to an increasing difficulty of moving steel across Michigan.
Clarence attended a board meeting and brought with him one of his air rifles.
At the time air guns were seen as a curiosity item and owned by the wealthy… The directors each had a shot of the rifle and were immediately impressed by its power … General manager L C Hough yes fire the rifle and said “Boy that’s a Daisy!” Which was a popular colloquialism at the time.
According to legend, the board of the Windmill company were offering the gun as a free gift to any farmer who purchased a windmill.
The success and overall popularity created by the rifle was such that the company stopped making windmills and instead put all their efforts into making air guns and renaming the company … Daisy Manufacturing Company.
The Red Ryder hold 650 bbs and weighs around 3 pounds.
The power ranges between 1 and 1.3ft pounds of energy with a muzzle velocity of 94m/ps or 310 to 350 f/ps.
The Daisy Red Ryder is mainly made of wood and metal apart from the sight riser and trigger.
This is the perfect beginner rifle for both the young and old and is excellent for teaching gun safety and targeting skills.
The daisy Red Ryder was named after the comic book hero “Red Ryder” and was designed to look like a Winchester lever action rifle. Daisy now own the licence for Winchester Air Rifles and air pistols.
This air rifle is beautifully made and reasonably priced to make it affordable for children.
