SD means Secure Digital
There are 3 standard dimensions for SD cards
(Standard) SD card
miniSD card
microSD card
We'll focus on microSD for smartphones
SPEED CLASS
Class 2 @ 2MB/s
Class 4 @ 4MB/s
Class 6 @ 6MB/s
Class 10 @ 10MB/s
***From Class 10, starts UHS class (Ultra High Speed)
UHS Class
UHS 1
UHS 3
VSC (Video Speed Class)
V6 is equal to Class 6 @ 6MB/s
V10 is equal to Class 10 and UHS 1 @ 10MB/s
V30 is equal to UHS 3 @ 30MB/s
V60 is greater than UHS 3 @ 60MB/s
V90 @ 90MB/s
For Standard Video Recording, you need:
Class 10 or UHS 1 or higher
For Full HD @ 60FPS recording, it is best to use UHS 3 or V30 or higher
For 4K video recording, start with UHS1 or Class 10 but better with UHS 3 or even V60
For 8K recording, go for UHS 3 or better yet, go for V90 @ 90MB/s
Application Performance Class
A1 is equal to Class 10 2 10MB/s and is best for storing maps, pictures, videos and video editing
A2 is also equal to Class 10 but with bigger cache space which is ideal for app management and operations
For General Use:
Always choose a CLASS 10 microSD or UHS 1
Better yet, go for UHS 3 but make sure to check for compatibility with your phone.
If you plan to use microSD for apps storage, make sure it has A2 support
If you have a high-end phone that supports 4k and 8K recording, go for UHS 3 with V30, V60, V90 support for best output speed.
REMINDERS:
Do not buy microSD cards from illegitimate stores
