How to Improve TF2s Performance!
TF2s performance on default settings is pretty bad. So I've made this short video that shares with you some console commands (ConVars) that can be used to improve TF2s performance.
Why make this video? -
Most players that I've come across with performance issues are unaware that they can tweak the graphical settings of the game to help improve the performance. As such, this video is to help those that might not know as much as others.
What about configs? -
I personally do not use configs and do not have any desire to use them. I am happy with the games base settings outside of the obvious performance instability that this game suffers from.
What is autoexec.cfg -
It is a configuration file that TF2 reads upon start up. This can be used to set convars, run commands and setup binds.
How to create autoexec.cfg -
1. Open File Explorer
2. Navigate to /Steam/steamapps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/cfg
(Default starting directory for TF2 on Windows is C:/Program Files (x86)/)
3. Create New Text Document File
4. Rename file from New Text Document.txt to autoexec.cfg
5. Open autoexec.cfg in notepad
(Note: You can also copy any other .cfg file in that folder and rename it to autoexec. Just make sure to clear it out afterwards!)
The Commands / ConVars -
mat_hdr_level 0 - Sets HDR to LDR (cannot be done on a map)
mat_antialis 0 - Disables Anti-Alias
mat_aaquality 0 - Sets Anti-Alias Quality to 0
mat_specular 0 - Disables Pre-Made World Reflections
fps_max (62 to 124) - Sets the max framerate the game can reach
