I’ve always been terrified of rainy days. When I was eight years old, I took our cattle out to graze after school. Heavy rain poured down on the way home, and I got soaked to the skin without a doubt.
On rainy days back then, our house was in total chaos. Rainwater seeped through the roof tiles drop by drop, and we had to keep bailing the water out nonstop.
Now I’m 28 years old. To save the cost of taking taxis, I still ride my electric scooter to work even when it rains. I still get wet, yet I am no longer scared. After getting drenched, I can change into dry clothes and stay in a house that doesn’t leak.
Growing up, I’ve long understood that I can’t rely on anyone. Not the government, nor any charity organizations. The only people I can count on are myself, and every penny I manage to save. I am not trying to gain sympathy by showing my hardships; this is just my real life.
