In 1978, the Chinese government developed a plan to first achieve technological sovereignty and then become a world leader in science and technology. Boy, did they get down to business. Initially, millions of young people from the PRC were sent to the world's leading universities, mainly in Europe, Japan and America. They were given a specific task: to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible and implement it back in their country. The government, for its part, has continued to increase funding for education and raise the status of scientists and engineers over the past 4 decades. As a result, a major study by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute in 2023 found that China leads in 37 of the 44 most important and tracked industries, with the potential for monopoly in areas such as, but not limited to, nanomaterials and synthetic biology. In this video, we will walk you through the most incredible technologies China has to offer and compare that to what everybody else has. I’m Nick and today we do not cosplay Southpark.
