Hello everyone. Welcome to a new video on this channel.
Today we've got a beauty. A Dell Inspiron 15 7501 with an Intel Core i5 10300 H, its Intel UHD Graphics, and 16GB of DDR4 dual-channel ram of which 8GB are soldered. I added another 8GB Kingston DDR4 - 2933 MHz module to double the bandwidth.
The Dell Inspiron 15 7501 has attractive configuration options, including Intel Comet Lake SoCs and Nvidia GeForce GTX 16-series dGPUs. But for today's video, we're just looking at the i5 10300 H and its integrated graphics.
If you see this beautiful case you might think "well that's another typical office system, nothing special". But it's just not quite that simple.
What makes this system special is the i5 10300 H. It's a 45W TDP CPU. And Dell didn't restrict the TDP. A lot of manufacturers are limiting the 10300 H to just 35W.
So I can already tell you. I had a lot of fun testing around different power plans to handle these 45Watts. Because simply using the fastest power plan in games will give you temperature problems. What worked best for me has been the high-performance power plan in Windows 10 in combination with Dell's optimized power plan in the application called "Dell Power Manager". This kept the temperature at an ok value and I didn't run into any heavy thermal throttling.
So CPU-wise, I can already recommend this device. 4 Cores 8 threads at such high clock rates are still totally ok for 2021. This is enough power to even handle heavy video editing projects. Also, the i5 10300 H gaming performance hasn't been any problem in any of today's tested games.
But what about the Intel UHD Graphics? Well, this is a chip that I've already tested in a previous video on this channel. One of my most clicked videos. Intel Core i3 10110U, Intel UHD Graphics, and 8GB of single-channel ram. Of course, the i3 is slower than the i5 and also the single-channel ram lowered its 3d performance but it's a way better-balanced system for games than the Dell 7501.
Of course, I'm now going to tell you why.
In the Dell Inspiron 15 7501, you've got this really powerful CPU that wouldn't have any problems in any title that is available on the market right now. But on the other hand, you've got this slow low-end graphic chip Intel UHD Graphics. So the CPU isn't able to show its real performance in games. That's a lot of wasted potentials.
So for gaming, you're way better off buying a cheaper system like the i3 10110U and upgrade it to dual-channel ram.
But let's still briefly talk about the Intel UHD Graphics.
It's not a bad chip. But unfortunately totally unbalanced in combination with the i5 10300 H.
Nevertheless, the Intel UHD is strong enough to run almost all games with reduced settings in 2021, except Warzone.
Hardware-hungry games such as Apex Legends, of course, run rather poorly than right. But especially games where the 3d performance is not important, such as Minecraft, run perfectly fine.
So is the Dell Inspiron 15 7501 a bad deal? By no means. As a no-brainer, I'd recommend this system for people who need a lot of CPU power. It's perfect for video editing or CAD, the display is brilliant. But for gaming, there are better alternatives at lower costs regarding the Dell Inspiron's 15 7501 regular price of 599 Euro.
One week ago, here in Germany, the Dell has been available for just 449€.
That would be a price I'd say. Just buy!
You don't have to worry about any cheaper or better alternative. Because at this price there are none.
So all in all am I able to recommend the i5 10300 H and its Intel UHD Graphics? It just depends on the price. If the device costs more than 500 euros, I would, as I said, tend towards a Core i3 and integrated graphics unit.
