Audre Lorde's The Cancer Journals is a book about deep existential questions. In this short book of essays, diary entries, and reflections, Audre Lorde recounts her cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Lorde sees her illness as a confrontation with her own death. She uses her writing to think through the meaning of her work as a poet in the face of her own mortality.
